A Mother and A Daughter

Seorang ibu memberikan putrinya sebuah kanvas putih kosong dan seperangkat alat lukis.

"Bu, saya tidak bisa melukis."

"Coba dan belajar. Nanti kamu akan mengerti."

Sang putri lalu dengan setengah antusias dan penuh rasa ingin tahu mulai melukis di atas kanvas kosong, menggoreskan kuasnya di sana sini dan memenuhi kanvas itu dengan warna-warna kesukaannya. Tepat ketika selesai ia memandang hasil karyanya dan kecewa. "Saya tidak suka hasilnya."

Sang Ibu hanya tersenyum dan membelikan lagi sebuah kanvas baru untuk putrinya yang sedang sedih.

"Istirahat dulu, lalu coba lagi, lihat dulu mana yang akan kamu ubah. Nanti lama-kelamaan kamu akan mengerti."

Setelah merasa tenang akhirnya sang putri mencoba lagi, menggoreskan kuasnya ke sana dan kemari. Mewarnai kanvasnya dengan warna-warna kesukaannya dengan cara yang berbeda. Setelah beberapa lama dia berhenti dan menatap hasil karyanya. Ia kecewa.

"Saya tidak suka. Saya pasti tidak bisa melukis," ujarnya sambil menangis.

Sang ibu datang dan memeluk putrinya. Dengan penuh kasih sayang ia mendorong putrinya untuk mencoba lagi. Setiap kali selalu berulang, jika sang putri gagal ibunya akan datang dan memberikannya kanvas atau perlengkapan baru, menyemangatinya dan menemaninya sampai putrinya mau berusaha lagi untuk melukis. Hal ini berlangsung berhari-hari dan berminggu-minggu.

Setiap waktu sang putri yang merasa gagal akan merasa sedih, namun dengan dorongan semangat ibunya ia mampu berusaha melukis lagi. Setiap kali menghadapi kegagalan dan mencoba lagi ia akan menatap lukisan sebelumnya, mempelajari hal-hal yang tidak ia suka lalu mencoba cara-cara baru dan memberi warna baru dalam lukisannya.

Pada suatu hari sang ibu menghampiri putrinya yang tampak sedang tersenyum ceria. Kali ini dalam kanvasnya tampak sebuah lukisan dengan warna cerah dan indah. "Saya bisa, bu."

Sang ibu sambil tersenyum mengajak putrinya menatap tiap lukisannya selama ini satu persatu dan berkata,

"Kamu lihat? Bagaimana kamu belajar sampai kamu bisa menyelesaikan lukisan kamu? Berawal dari kanvas kosong yang Ibu beri, kamu mulai mewarnai. Tiap kamu mencoba lagi, kamu akan belajar untuk tidak mengulangi kesalahan kamu di lukisan sebelumnya, dan menghasilkan sesuatu yang baru. Dan kamu melakukannya berulang-ulang sampai akhirnya kamu menemukan sebuah cara untuk menjadikan lukisanmu indah seperti sekarang.

Itulah hidup. Kanvas putih itu adalah kamu. Ketika kamu hadir pertama kali, begitu polos dan bersih. Lalu akan datang berbagai warna yang akan menghiasi kamu. Dan akan ada saatnya ketika warna yang datang tidak sesuai hingga kamu kecewa atau merubah hidup kamu menjadi jauh dari apa yang kamu mau. Tapi selama hidup masih berjalan, kamu bisa memulai segalanya lagi. Dari awal, kembali ke nol. Menjadi kanvas putih yang bersih untuk kembali menyambut warna-warna baru lagi. Begitu terus dan terus jika kamu masih memberi kesempatan pada dirimu sendiri dan masih mau mencoba. Pada akhirnya warna yang tepat akan datang. Dan kamu akan tahu bagaimana menghiasi kanvasmu, hidupmu, dengan warna yang baru.

Ada banyak kesempatan bagi kamu untuk mencoba, untuk belajar, untuk mengenal segala macam "warna" hidup. Dan ibu tidak akan selalu ada untuk kamu. Jadi kamu harus berusaha sendiri. Sekarang kamu paham bahwa kamu bisa. Kamu bisa melakukan apapun, jika kamu mau mencoba. Bahkan nanti ketika kamu menghadapi hidupmu sendiri, dengan mengenal warnamu sendiri, kamu pasti bisa. Lukislah hidupmu dengan sepenuh hati kamu. Selalu coba dan coba lagi sampai nanti kamu bisa menjadikan hidupmu indah selayaknya lukisan cantik yang kamu inginkan, dengan kekuatan kamu sendiri."

First day of December.

And though we have no winter season here, Jakarta still feels cold since the rainy season has started.

Saying hello to my fave sweaters, coats and boots again (finally).

Can't believe it's almost the end of the year again, and it's getting closer and closer to the most important event of my life which is coming up soon.

I have so many plans that I haven't achieve this year but hopefully I can actually start on some of them this month.

Japan has always been on the forefront of cutting edge robotics. Its roots can be traced back 200-300 years during the Edo period when skilled craftsmen created automata (self-operating machines). Using nothing more than pulleys and weights they were able to make the Karakuri (Japanese automata) perform amazing tasks.

Japans modern day robots can be traced back to the Karakuri. Today Hideki Higashino is one of the few remaining craftsmen who is determined to keep the history and tradition of Japanese Karakuri alive.

Behind The Scenes:

Meet Rick Genest, a Canadian artist and fashion model born in Montreal on August 7, 1985. Genest is also known as 'Zombie Boy', with eighty percent of his body is covered, including intricate designs of an entire skeleton (skull included) and is thematically, the depiction of a body decomposing - complete with flesh eating insects.

Started to get his first tattoo at 16, he then meet up with Montreal's tattoo artist Frank Lewis by 19 and was committed to his full body tattoo project, with Lewis responsible on designing the majority of his body over the next six years.

The ad video from above was made as a campaign video for Dermablend Professional products, since Rick Genest has become the muse for the brand. The amazing transformation took a team of makeup artists a full day to cover the tattoos on Genest’s head, chest, arms, face and part of his back.

Genest shot to fame after Nicolas Formichetti, creative director of Mugler and stylist to Lady Gaga, put him on the Paris catwalks and in Gaga’s Born this Way video.

You can have a snack or drink virtually anywhere, but there is simply nowhere to sleep. Sleeping in public causes security, privacy and hygiene issues. Sleep away from home in busy and crowded places is a non-existent luxury." [Sleepbox]

A very interesting design concept by some creative people in Russia. The main concept of Sleepbox is special units designed as mini hostels, designed for travellers (especially solo travellers) or any people with such mobile activities to be able to have a special place to rest without having to go to a hotel. But the units themselves were already provided with the same level of security and comfort as a hotel does.

Other designers from other countries have also come out with mini hostels as such with different ideas in shape and sizes. But I do think that these design will actually work and is going to become a new trend with so many people who does travelling more these days.

Coffee and Cameras

Last weekend my fiance and I went to our usual coffee-date, at our favorite place, KopiTiam by Bengawan Solo Coffee at La Piazza Kelapa Gading. The only difference is that this time we ask my brother to go along with us. The main idea that day was to let him take pictures of us while are on a date, and we're sort of planning to use some of the photos as part of our pre-wedding pictures. Here are some of his great work, with my editing (I'm only doing it for this blog. Nothing serious yet).

You might notice that there's something different about us on the picture above. Yes, shorter hair! We both actually cut our hair last week and almost at the same time though we didn't meet each other before weekend. Some of my friends questioned me about it, considering that a "very important event" is coming soon and I might need my hair a lot longer. But I couldn't help it, my hair started to keep falling after I got this high fever a few weeks ago. Well, let's just hope that my hair will get much longer in a few weeks :p

After a couple of hours hanging out at the small coffee-shop, we went for a little walk at La Piazza and let my brother took some pictures then. We went separate ways after because my brother had to go back to work again that night. The photos came out great although it felt kinda awkward being to model for a camera, I guess it goes that way to many photographers or people that have been working behind the camera and not in front of them. But I guess it was much more harder for my fiance...I often become his model on every photo-hunting date we've been on, but he rarely got his picture taken. I guess that's why we laughed a lot everytime we try to purposely act in front of the camera.

More photo sessions for our pre-wedding pictures are coming up. Can't wait to work on them again.

October 14th. A birthday wish (and some lovable song) from my fiance by the phone. A birthday wish from my brother through Twitter. And birthday kisses from my parents...all at exactly midnight time at the 14th. A simple but really sweet birthday, but extremely special since I was so far away from home last year.

I planned to have cupcakes as birthday cakes, just like how I got come cupcakes for my fiance's birthday last August 15th. But then I changed the whole plan since I just won a dozen of yummy cupcakes from Cupcakes Company just the week before from winning a quiz that they held on Twitter. So we just had a dinner together instead.

The actual birthday dinner was held the day after, at Saturday night, at Abuba Steakhouse Kelapa Gading. The night was great...great meal, great company, though the service was not so great. But we still enjoyed ourselves.

None of us had our cameras that night (can you imagine, a whole family of photographers and yet no one had any camera with them?), so we didn't take any special photos. But we did have some taken by my cellphone. They're not much, but still a perfect memory of the night.

28 is a very powerful number. I am so grateful for the life I've gone through, and for the many amazing experiences I have. There are still so many things I wanna do, and so many places I wanna go to. I guess this is some sort of a reminder that I have to move faster to reach every dream I have. I just can't wait to experience more in life. And mostly for the future I have with my fiance.

A Simple Hello (Back)

Hello, everyone...It has been a long while since the last time I updated this blog of mine, haven't I? I have a lot of things I want to share to you guys from the past months I've been offline but there's so many things in mind that I just don't know where to start.

Well, since I'm still at work so I guess I'll have to wait 'till tonight before I start writing back. I changed my blog design and and thinking of getting a new title for the blog. Deffinitely open to any ideas, if any of you could help me decide.

Reunion with The Demons

Pada tahun 1998, saya membeli sebuah kaset tape berisi kompilasi soundtrack film, Spawn the Movie. Dalam album ini terdapat beberapa band yang telah saya kenal (yang menjadi alasan kenapa saya membeli album ini, meski saya tidak terlalu bisa menikmati filmnya), namun di antara list band-band menakjubkan yang ada di dalamnya ada satu band yang menarik perhatian saya dan akhirnya membuat saya jatuh cinta pada musiknya saat itu juga. It was Incubus. Single mereka dalam album itu, "Familiar", menjadi salah satu single yang akan terus-menerus saya putar hingga beberapa lama setelahnya. Dan lewat perkenalan ini, saya terus mencari tahu lebih banyak lagi mengenai band ini.

Baru pada tahun 2000-2001, pasca single "Pardon Me" dirilis, saya akhirnya mulai mengoleksi kaset tape Incubus (pada tahun itu CD masih sulit didapat dan masih terlalu mahal untuk kantong siswi SMA), diawali dengan album yang dirilis ada waktu yang sama, Make Yourself, lalu album S.C.I.E.N.C.E dan mini album Enjoy Incubus. Tanpa saya sadari akhirnya saya ketagihan beat musik mereka, and then it's official....I became a fan.

Tahun 2008, saya mendengar kabar dari adik saya bersama rekan-rekannya di JakartaConcerts.com bahwa Incubus akan datang dan menggebrak Jakarta. Dengan penuh antusiasme saya menanti, namun kemudian langsung patah hati. Karena kehadiran band kecintaan saya di ibukota bersamaan dengan jadwal tenggat waktu dan ujian Tugas Akhir saya. Terjebak di Solo, saya hanya bisa berjuang keras berkonsentrasi untuk menyelesaikan pendidikan saya sambil menahan segala kekecewaan.

Setelah beberapa lama ternyata Incubus hadir kembali di Jakarta. Dan kali ini saya bertekad untuk benar-benar menyaksikan band ini tampil langsung dengan mata kepala saya sendiri.

Namun sekali lagi kondisi menjelang konser seringkali tidak mendukung saya untuk benar-benar yakin untuk membeli tiket konser sebagai jaminan kepastian saya untuk bergabung bersama adik dan teman-teman yang lain di depan panggung di Istora Senayan, kondisi keuangan, kesehatan, pekerjaan dan dengan dimajukannya acara pertunangan saya nyaris membuat saya mengurungkan segala niat saya untuk menyaksikan Brandon Boyd dan kawan-kawan.

Lalu datanglah hari itu, 26 Juli 2011, ketika hari konser tiba. Semenjak malam sebelumnya adik saya terus-menerus meyakinkan saya untuk tetap datang menyaksikan konser bersamanya, namun hingga sore hari menjelang konser dimulai saya masih terus ragu dan benar-benar nyaris memutuskan untuk (sekali lagi) melewatkan konser ini. Dalam kegalauan saya, saya bahkan sempat menulis di twitter saya: "If not now, WHEN?". Lalu ketika jam pulang kerja tiba, dengan dorongan terakhir dari adik saya dan atas ijin tunangan saya, saya lalu meninggalkan kantor dan dengan menumpang ojek (ojek rampok, mahal bener soalnya) saya melaju dengan cepat ke Istora Senayan dan...akhirnya membeli tiket.

Tepat ketika saya memegang lebaran tiket itu di tangan saya seluruh tubuh saya bergetar dan saya nyaris teriak tak percaya. Saya langsung masuk melewati Gate 1 yang telah terbuka sejak 20 menit sebelumnya dan bergabung di ujung antrian masuk Gate 2 yang sudah sangat panjang. Setelah menanti kurang lebih satu jam akhirnya Gate 2 dibuka dan saya memasuki area festival yang masih cukup sepi sehingga saya masih mendapat area yang fleksibel tak jauh di depan panggung untuk dapat melihat personil Incubus dengan baik. Hanya beberapa menit kemudian datang rombongan adik saya dan rekan-rekan Incunesia yang baru saja menghadiri acara meet and greet bersama personil-personil Incubus (iri! sangat!). Dengan semangat mereka bergabung dengan saya di bagian tengah-kanan area festival, di mana kira-kira Mike Einziger akan berada nantinya. Adik saya dengan penuh haru memeluk saya sambil berteriak, "I met Mike Einzigeeeer!!!!" Mike adalah pahlawan bagi adik saya yang juga seorang gitaris.

Beberapa waktu setelahnya band pembuka lokal, Good Morning Alice, naik panggung dan memainkan 4 lagu. Meski sebagian besar penonton ikut bersorak sepanjang penampilan mereka, tampak dengan jelas bahwa seluruh penonton (termasuk saya yang sedang mengalami radang tenggorokan, meski nyaris lupa) menyimpan segala tenaga dan semangat untuk menyambut Incubus tampil. Setelah band pembuka selesai tampil lagi-lagi kami harus menunggu cukup lama untuk konser utama dimulai. Persiapan panggung oleh kru-kru berbadan besar dan tatto super banyak cukup membuat semua orang geregetan dan akhirnya terus berteriak. Dan ketika salah satu kru meletakkan perlengkapan efek gitar Mike Einziger yang sangat lengkap dan banyak di bagian panggung tepat di depan kami, terdengar adik saya yang berdiri di belakang saya mulai berteriak histeris...

Setelah beberapa lama dan mulai makin tak sabar akhirnya Chydie, ketua Incunesia, yang berdiri di samping saya mengajak kami bernyanyi bersama untuk memanggil Incubus tampil. Baru mulai menyanyikan bait pertama lagu "Dig", dan belum sampai berhasil mengajak penonton lain ikut bernyanyi...Brandon, Mike, Ben, Chris dan Jose tampak menaiki panggung. Seluruh penonton seisi Istora mulai berteriak histeris dan seisi area festival mendesak semakin maju. Dan ketika lagu pertama, "Megalomaniac", dimainkan...seluruh penonton di sekitar saya - termasuk saya sendiri, yang menonton sambil membawa tas laptop (yes, people. I just got off work and I got a lot of homework to do) - mulai bergerak, berlompatan dan mosh-pit terliar yang pernah saya alami dalam jangka waktu setahun terakhir pun terjadi. It was amazing!

Hits demi hits dibawakan dengan sempurna, bahkan hits yang konon jarang mereka bawakan live - "Look Alive", "Rogues", dan "Love Hurts" yang pecah total karena seluruh penonton ikut menyanyi, dan "Pardon Me" - yang tidak mereka mainkan di konser 2008. Tak ketinggalan, "Isadore", single dari album terbaru. Dan "The Warmth"...well, what more can you say about this single, ey?

17 lagu mereka bawakan sebelum akhirnya mereka mundur dari panggung, semacam 'ritual' singkat menjelang encore. Menurut bocoran sebagai pembuka encore Incubus seharusnya memainkan "I Miss You", namun akhirnya memilih untuk membawakan salah satu hits terpanjang dari album baru "If Not Now, When", yaitu "In The Company Of Wolves". Progresif, menggetarkan dan salah satu pilihan dewasa Incubus menurut saya. Dan akhirnya malam yang ajaib dan tak terlupakan itu pun ditutup dengan hits "Nice To Know You" yang lagi-lagi pecah karena koor penonton memberikan setiap energi terakhir mereka untuk menutup konser.

Malam yang menakjubkan. Entah berapa kali selama penampilan Incubus di panggung saya berteriak ke adik saya, "pinch me!!" karena saya masih tak percaya saya benar-benar menyaksikan Incubus tampil live di depan saya. Hingga konser selesai saya nyaris menangis senang karena pengalaman yang saya tunggu-tunggu selama bertahun-tahun itu akhirnya terjadi juga. Tapi seperti kata pepatah, "Happiness only real when shared", meski sepanjang konser berlangsung saya merayakan bersama dengan adik saya dan teman-teman yang begitu antusias dan bahagia, tetap ada yang kurang. Karena dua orang terpenting dalam hidup saya, yang juga mengikuti perjalanan Incubus di dunia musik selama bertahun-tahun bersama saya tidak dapat ikut hadir dan menikmati malam menakjubkan itu. Dika - tunangan saya - yang saat itu sedang dalam kondisi sakit dan tetap harus bekerja, dan Rayka - sahabat saya dan juga bekas teman bermain band semasa kuliah - yang masih berada di Sidney, Australia untuk menemani pengobatan Ayahnya.

Ketika seluruh dunia tengah berkabung untuk meninggalnya talenta musik muda - lagi-lagi di umur 27 - Amy Winehouse, saya justru berkabung untuk yang lain.

Adalah Noises by GAP, talenta yang tak sempat dikenal banyak orang kecuali dari kalangannya sendiri. Noises by GAP adalah (yang biasa dikenal sebagai) one man band, sebagai media dari talenta yang tidak ada duanya dari musisi muda berbakat, Gendra Aldyasa Pasaman. Dengan memanfaatkan gitar dan sebuah software musik dalam MacBooknya, Gendra merekam karyanya dalam kamar tidurnya sendiri dan menghasilkan berbagai single yang menakjubkan, dan merangkupnya dalam sebuah album penuh - "Sonic Sun", sebuah EP - "Getting To Know Yourself" dan sebuah album (on progress) - "Do You See What I See?"

Pada awalnya ketiga album tersebut dirilis melalui situs Bandcamp dan pengunjung halamannya dipersilahkan untuk mengunduh album-album itu secara cuma-cuma. Namun pengunduhan gratis tersebut dihentikan dan kini lagu-lagu Noises by GAP hanya dapat didengarkan melalui proses streaming atau dibeli (via online) dengan harga 1 dollar AS per lagu.

Beberapa pekan yang lalu, tepatnya hari Senin, 18 Juli 2011, sebuah peluncuran album "Sonic Sun" milik Noises by GAP dalam bentuk fisik diadakan di The Goods Dept., sebuah department store yang terletak di Plaza Indonesia. Acara peluncuran album diadakan dengan nuansa penuh ambience khas yang mengijinkan para pengunjung untuk duduk santai bersama di sofa-sofa yang santai ataupun di karpet hijau yang digelar khusus di salah satu sudut toko.

Dengan menampilkan band The Trees and The Wild sebagai pembuka yang tampil secara akustik, acara peluncuran ini berbentuk sebuah listening party, di mana beberapa single dari Noises by GAP diputar dengan ditemani suguhan visual yang diproyeksikan pada dinding bata putih khas The Goods Dept. dari visual jockey Isha Hening dan Lando. Acara peluncuran ini dihadiri oleh beberapa teman dekat dan keluarga Gendra, dan di tengah acara Ibunda Gendra memberi sambutan dan bercerita singkat mengenai Gendra.

Sayang, sang talenta yang karyanya sedang dirayakan pada malam itu telah tiada dan tak lagi bersama kita di dunia. Tepatnya pada 27 Desember 2010, Gendra meninggal dunia setelah terjatuh dari lantai 15 sebuah apartemen yang terletak di daerah Jakarta Selatan karena sebab yang masih belum diketahui hingga kini, pada usia 18 tahun.

Di puncak acara malam itu, sebuah video klip dari salah satu lagu Noises by GAP yang terdapat di Sonic Sun, “Superstar”, diputar. Video klip yang menampilkan montage foto-foto dan video dokumentasi pribadi Gendra semenjak kecil hingga masa-masa terakhirnya itu menciptakan perasaan haru yang memenuhi ruangan seketika. Today's inspiration comes from this house (and its interior) which I found in the middle of daily brainstorming through Inspace Locations a few days ago. It is the converted stables home of gallerist Stuart Shave, designed by architect David Kohn. Open-plan orientated around a simple modernist fireplace, light spills in through walls of glass. It's warm and simple, mid-century and modern. Rough brick is smoothed with white paint, rustic and sparse yet sophisticated and softened. And for an art dealer strangely devoid of art.

Found a new love on fashion lately via online, and it is Ruche.

Ruche is a collaboration of fashion, photography, design, and lifestyle. Created and designed in 2008 by Mai Olivo and Josh Olivo, this fashion brand offers a variety of simple - yet so adorable - vintage styled fashion items, from clothing, shoes, and accessories, which they design themselves with a modern touch and colors. And of course, in reasonable prices (which I couldn't find much easier lately). And the most lovable thing that you can find in their website is not only the designs, but also the breathtaking pictures on their lookbooks. I can't describe you how much I can always admire their website from time and time again just by looking at the pictures.

This summer, Ruche is launching their new collection, called "Sunlit Serenity". The whole concept of the design is all about simplicity, soft and breezy texture, floral motives and soft earthly colors, which are comfortable to wear (and see) on summer. The beautiful designs are so mesmerizing that I couldn't stop adding items on my wishlist. The lookbook itself are (as usual) so breathtaking. Using the theme of "serene moments" on the pictures for the lookbook, showing the warm feeling of summer, holidays, and nature beauty, it is deffinitely impossible not to fall in love with the whole collection.

And as I said, I already have a wishlist of my own :)

Nikicio Mixte Vol. 06: Untitled Launching Night

One of the most exciting time I had this month was the launcing night of my favorite local fashion brand, NIKICIO for their new collection, MIXTE VOL.06: Untitled. This is probably my most favorite collection that they ever launched, EVER!!! The whole items in the collection were inspired by the movie "Inception", giving a collection of all black, drapery, layered, loose and imaginative design which I adore so badly (I actually had made a short review of the collection here).

I went to The Goods Dept. that night immediately after work. I brought my camera but sadly the batteries failed to charge, so I ended up using my phone camera to get the pictures for the night. Sorry for the low quality and blurry images. Hope I'll get better pictures next time :(

Nina Nikicio gave an amazing presentation to introduce the whole collection, giving some instructions for the new collection and how to have fun with the imaginary designs. She also shared every stories on how she came up with the ideas for the designs and every single piece was so irresistable!! The presentation of the night ended with everyone starting to shop for every pieces available.

JongArsitek! @ IMAJI Design Weeks

It's been awhile since the last time I updated my blog. Sorry for the quite long hiatus. Being busy probably won't be a good excuse for it, I just haven't got enough time (and the mood) to write any. Anyway, I've been on some interesting activities lately. One of them I had with JongArsitek! on the beginning of May.

On May 4th, JongArsitek! was invited to hold a special presentation on an event held by IMAJI Books Publishing along with Studio Imelda Akmal Architectural Writer (IAAW Studio) and Sonny Sandjaya Photography. The event was called “IMAJI DESIGN WEEKS”, held from April 28th to may 12th, 2011 at F4 Cone FX Plaza, Jakarta.

The event was actually a series of events involving Indonesian creative communities that are active in any kind of activies regarding on design and architecture. The event was also held as a grand launching of the book “50 INDONESIAN HOUSES & VILLAS” compiled by IAAW Studio and also an opening of a photography exhibition entitled “Every House Tells a Story”, presenting the paradox on Indonesian contemporary housing by Sonny Sandjaya and cultural dialog “Makna Sebuah Rumah” with Iwan Meulia Pirous, Director of Indonesian Anthropology.

At the presentation, JongArsitek! had the privilege of sharing and presenting all of the works and activities that have been held JongArsitek! for the past few years as a community that are joined by many local young architects, associated with the development of Indonesian architecture. The later discussion, which was joined by many members of local creative communities and personnels of IAAW Studio, also talked about JongArsitek!'s part in the local architecture development itself, which then joined by Imelda Akmal herself who gave us many input of ideas to work with. Brightspot Market 2nd Anniversary

Last weekend was so full of excitement for me, because Brightspot Market has been held again at Pasific Place after awhile, celebrating their 2nd anniversary. I never really got the chance to join up or shop at their previous shopping madness at their previous events, so I joined every contest I found online to get their special limited opening night invitations. And I did :)

Thanks to p.a.n.g., I received an opening night invitation via twitter and I went straight to Pasific Place after work with enough cash to shop at my favorite brands that was promoting their new collections on this edition of Brightspot Market.

The night was so crowded and having myself surrounded by amazingly lovely fashion goods and with the people that were so excited on crowding all the booths you can find, was so overwhelming and I totally couldn't help myself. I spent the next hours of the night roaming all corners of the venue and enjoyed myself.

I have been wanting cupcakes, and won't stop imagining having towers of lovely and yummy cupcakes on my wedding day (don't ask when yet, we're working on it). Some of my followers (including you, maybe) perhaps wondered what triggered my cravings for cupcakes on my most important day of my life that is coming (not too soon, actually). Well, this is why:

DC Cupcakes is an American reality television series which follows sisters and business partners Sophie LaMontagne and Katherine Kallinis as they run Georgetown Cupcake, a small cupcakery located in Washington, D.C..

I have been watching this show every week lately and always adore those little yummy cupcakes, and kept on wishing for them. I mean, don't you think that these lovely yummy cupcakes are just.....delightfull?

Interior Inspiration: Children Study Spaces

I have been working on interior projects lately and some of them involves on children bedrooms and playhouses. And since I rarely ever had such experience on working for children before, I needed a little extra brainstroming on collecting any ideas that might help. After collecting some inspirations that actually helped me on my work, I decided to share some of them.

These photos aren't my work but they are my main inspirations on the project. So let me share them to you while adding some tips (well, consider this being my diary so this post would also be my personal notes that might help - not only for the readers but also for myself in the future).

Colors. Children and teenagers tend to have some fresh and colorful which can make them more energetic in doing their activities. Add colorful furniture or decorations in their room to create more spirit and happy feeling. The impact of fresh and colorful view in the room can motivate them to study and do other positive activities.

Walls and corners. Children and teenagers can get distracted easily. Creating their private space by facing the walls or the corners of the room might help them have the privacy they needed to concentrate on studying. But remember to give enough lighting on the study space so the child's eye won't get exhausted too quickly by forcing themselves to study and read in the dark or having less light.

Or you could just place the study desk right under the window. The fresh light are healthy and safe for children's eyes and the view they can get from looking out the window could help them get rid of their boredom of facing books all the time.

Motivations. Placing pictures or motivating texts could help create more spirit for the children to study more. And also can motivate them to be creative on their activities.

Lights. Again, lighting is important. Make sure the room have enough lighting for the comfort of the eyes when they are doing their activities. Or just place the study desk right where the room's lighting is most appropriate for studying or doing activites.

There is neither definite beginning nor an ending to a dream. No matter precise or blurry fragments of mementos; NIKICIO presents MIXTE Vol: 06-Untitled. An all black ensemble of 28 designs incorporating varieties of textures from knitwear to nappa leather, from organdy to tencel, the collection evokes what NIKICIO stands from day one; a premium surrealist. Inspired by the “Inception” movie application found in iPod touch, the trip takes one to be in a limbo; a state of static but knowing everything is revolving. The unisex collection spoke of dreams realized in designs; tank tops in the collection feature double layers, which represent the illusory qualities of dreams. The collection also features a limited rectangular acrylic-made transparent clutch. Standing on the primary concept grounds that MIXTE is a collection that banishes barriers that fashion should not be defined by gender or a season, the Untitled collection brings its own perception of the future; black, undefined, beautiful.

My "Me" Time

Last Friday was probably one of the busiest day at work. The day started with an early meeting at the project and followed by a series of speed drawing, revising and printing some technical drawings, consulting with co-workers, and everything else. I've been working on some interior designing lately and one of my projects was about making a children playhouse, which is quite a lot of fun.

I decided to make some stops on my way home later that day, visiting Senayan City and Plaza Indonesia to survey some interior items at some interior supplier branches while trying to get some things useful for myself. And ended up buying some of these things.

I stopped by at Aksara Bookstore at Plaza Indonesia to get some books and accessories. And I finally bought a book written by Avianti Armand, a young female architect who also is a very talented writer. It's really unfortunate of me that I missed her earlier book, Negeri Para Peri, but I did get her latest release, Perempuan Yang Dihapus Namanya. Her writings are amazing.

I've been needing a mouse-pad for quite sometime, since the surface of my worktable is not really smooth enough for my mouse to work well. I got this really cute mouse-pad at Senayan City. And it's really cheap also. The bunny is adorable haha.

I always adore IKEA for any home and office products and have been recommending them a lot for any interior projects. And when my boss told me about MUJI, a branch of similar concept originally from Japan, opened their store at Plaza Indonesia, quite made some interest of me that I always wanting to have a visit.

Visiting MUJI was addictive, everything they have in the store was so lovable and affordable that I actually made some of my own choses of furniture pieces to buy for myself. I didn't shop at all that night since I haven't find my own place, but they are totally recommended.

I always love reading books. Any kind of them. But hardly ever find any spare time to do so lately. So I've been trying to squeeze in some of "my" time at the middle of work or any time that I can manage. Here are some of the books that I'm currently reading. The Man Who Was Thursday by G.K. Chesterton and Night and Day by Virgina Woolf. I haven't really finished reading them so I can't tell you much about them, but they really are helping me to relax a bit each time in the middle of a hectic day. Both of these books are actually belong to my boyfriend. I kind of find them in the middle of some of his belongings that he left in my bedroom.

A very late post. Last week. Saturday date. The man of my life. Pizza date. Bekasi Square. Used books.

Just realized that we hardly could ever spend time together just like we did before. We've been too busy and now you are further from home. It has been awhile since our last coffee-date at our favorite small coffee corner or going to the movies together. Time passes really fast and it felt like we are losing our pace of time. But you're still there.

Last Saturday was fun. We finally had a comfy and relaxing date that day. Had pizza and found some very cheap used books that we never got to look for before though have been planning to. I wish time would go slower. Or maybe just speed itself to take us to that point faster, when I could be with you always. On every single moment of our lives.

Travel Log. Solo Euphoria #Part2

Sunday Morning. The second day of our trip started quite early. We planned to have street photo hunting along the streets of Solo City. We gathered on that cloudy morning at Pasar Gedhe, where we would then park our motorcycles and leave them there while we walked to the main streets together. We stayed awhile to have our breakfast at the local wedangan and had some chats before we started the day. After the morning meal and chats we took some photos around Pasar Gedhe, but just as we started the day's hunting the rain started to fall. We then run inside the Pasar Gedhe market to shelter in.

As the rain started to fall harder we got deepeer into the market and finally started our photo hunting inside. It was kinda hard for me and my boyfriend to do so since all we had with us was our vintage analogue cameras and a plastic pocket camera which needed more light than any other cameras. But we did managed to get good shoots.

After the rain had stopped we finally left the market and headed out to the actual street photo hunting, taking a lot of photos of the objects we met along our way towards Solo City Walk, Slamet Riyadi.

The photo hunting went really well and so much fun, despite the fact that our friend Ade sort of broke his FishEye camera and my stockings were ripped for being caught in my own shoes (I know, I'm a clutz). And the rest of the long walk at the City Walk was full of not only photo takings, but we also stopped at almost on every corner we got to for sitting down and joke around, to fill up the morningpaper's crosswords the Kesit took with him, or to buy some local snacks and light meal, like Srabi Solo, Lekker cake, and even Baso (I think we ate more than taking pictures).

We made a final stop at the street of Ngarsopuro and visited the Triwindu market (we also went here last holiday). I tried to find some antiques to buy and bring home with, like an antique jewelry box or traditional games or anything interesting things that I can put in my room but couldn't find any that I really like and have a good price for. Even if I did find anything it would be too big for us to bring home with us by train. One of our junior at campus, Agra, came to joined us at this point and also Iin, who came to joined Kenthus (who is, although they never really published the case, her boyfriend).

It was already really late at the afternoon when we finished taking pics at the Triwindu Market that we continued our walk to Jalan Raden Saleh, the smaller street near Mangkunegaran Palace, that would brought us back to Pasar Gedhe through a different route and made another stop. We had our late lunch together at local traditional diner (which I couldn't remember what the name was). Just when we started our meal the rain started to fall again (whatta day, huh?). When we finished the meal and the whole joking around and silly conversations started again, some other of our juniors from campus who are also members of the Photography Club joined us and made the afternoon became much more crowded.

Just as the rain slowly stopped we continued our way back to Pasar Gedhe and then went on to our separate ways. The others went back to the boarding house while my boyfriend and I went back to our house in Sambeng. We waited until nighttime when my boyfriend took me along to Kopi Saung near campus for his meetings with his mates to talk about his long-postponed business. I left early just about past midnight, made a stop to Prau for a late supper and went home with my boyfriend. He later went back to the meeting right after. The next day we were planning to hangout at our campus.

Travel Log. Solo Euphoria #Part1

Last weekend. My boyfriend and I decided to had a short travel to the city that we love most, Solo. Just like the travel we had last holiday (read here), the whole thing started from our friend's Facebook status that gave us the idea of gathering together at Solo for the weekend, to hang out and have photo hunting together just like before.

We left Jakarta at Friday evening with Senja Utama, a business class train leaving to Solo Balapan Station from Pasar Senen Station. I rode the train from Pasar Senen and my boyfriend, who is now living in Bekasi, joined me from Bekasi Station where the train had a short stop. We arrived on Saturday morning, a bit late than scheduled, at Solo Balapan Station and headed on to my family's house on Sambeng with a traditional becak. The air that morning was so fresh, much different with what we have in Jakarta. The feeling we had realizing that we were already in Solo was amazing.

My uncle was still asleep when we got to the house but he opened the door for us not long after. We rested awhile with our early chat and coffee, took a refreshing bath then decided to start our trip for the day.

We left the house by walking and headed to the street where I used to stop the bus on my way to campus back in the college days. While walking we saw so many things in the neighbourhood that had changed a lot. On our way we then decided to take another route, wanting to have an early photo hunting by ourselves before heading out to our friends' boarding house around campus.

Right at the corner of the street where we had to wait for the public transport we stopped by on this small traditional diner that has been there for years. We had nasi pecel with fried eggs and tea, and spent 9000 rupiahs for the whole meal (not for each but for both of us). Amazingly cheap, isn't it?

With our stomach full and delightfull feeling after the meal we head on to Slamet Riyadi with public transport to have our photo hunting and early walk. The day was cloudy though it was almost 12 at noon and the air was still so fresh that we actually thought that it was still morning time.

Solo City Walk. Slamet Riyadi is the main road of the amazingly beautiful small city.We started our long walk from the Solo Grand Mall corner. So many memories we had at this city and we had our time to enjoy the whole thing. At the middle of our small trip rain started to fall and my boyfriend said, "Neduh di Gramedia yuk. Kaya dulu itu" (Translate: "Let's shelter out at Gramedia. Just like we did back then"). The memory flashed back to the year 2008, near the end of that year, when we hung out at Solo - as bestfriends back then - and got caught up by the rain that night that we had to sheltered ourselves in Gramedia Bookstore.

Balai Soedjatmoko. Again, so many memories we had in this building. This is where we had our theatre performance together, even the one that finally got us much closer and started out our close relationship years ago as bestfriends, and closer than siblings. This is also the place where we had so many exhibitions with our college friends. It feels so good to be in this place. All we did that day was just sitting around at the stairs in front of the bookstore, where we met Joko, a friend of ours. We had some talks about our jobs and our trip until the rain stopped and we continued our way.

We stopped by at Soeit Fong Photo to process some of the photo that we've made before we got on the bus and head out to join our friends. The small reunion started not long after. It was fun to be at a familiar place and with familiar faces.

The afternoon quickly turn itself to nearly night time. So we all decided to have an early dinner at Prau, our most favorite hangout place. The traditional "wedangan" that we missed so much. Mami Kapal, the lady who owned the place greeted my boyfriend and the rest of the group like welcoming her own children, since we all always comeby at night to have our meal and hangouts. We stayed there quite a long while just like we used to and the rain that fell again caught us and made us stay longer.

We went different ways at nearly 8 PM, my boyfriend and I went to Soeit Fong to get our processed photo and went straight to KopiKupas, the usual reunion spot, while the others went out to pick up Purwo, the last member of the group to joined up. We all eventually gathered together at KopiKupas that night, just like our last unforgetable reunion. It was fun and felt really amazing. The place was really crowded for the night but we still had fun together. The night of reunion finally stopped at 2AM when the coffeeshop had to close for the night. The much more exciting part of the trip continued at the next morning.

Done some wall decorating to get rid of the boredom I got from staying on bed the whole day with the sickness (I get sick a lot more easily lately, don't I?). I got this wall stickers from FabulousWall just last week, when I couldn't find any good wallpapers or walldecorations to fill in my empty wall. Soaked on Project

Last Saturday I accepted a small job from my friend Hindi to photograph her friend's wedding. We started really early at that morning and even at the beginning of the day rain was already started to fall really hard. The whole ceremony actually had a very nice concept, but unfortunately so many things went wrong all the way. The wedding was held outdoor, at the backyard of a ballroom which have a huge pool at the middle and with very romantic decoration accross the venue. But then things started to fall apart, started with the catering, the whole arrangement of events, and added to it - rain kept pouring the whole day (please note that with so many events arranged in the wedding the whole thing lasted for more than 7 hours). Oh, and there was also that little incident where Hindi's backpack got left behind at the family bus and was taken along with the family that left early that day.

We still had fun, though. And we did took a lot of good photos of the bride and groom, and ourselves (of course). Here's a little peak of some of them.

Saturday Nite. Tori Amos. Chat with my busy boyfriend through Yahoo Messenger. Planning and making lists of the things we need to do. Design (things). Commenting on our (though not totally) ruined photoworks.

Here's one of the (though not totally) ruined photoworks that my boyfriend and I made. We used Nikon FM2n and FM10 on the photos we made, but we think the problem was in one of our camera lenses. I have no idea why, but I still like this photo...though it's one of the most ruined photo of them all.

Grainy photo, splitted frames and that big black dot at the center. But it was a wonderful moment :)

Am craving for these beautiful shawl from Cotton-Ink. I'm flat broke, though..no shopping for awhile *sigh*.

When We Awake All Dreams Are Gone

Last Friday. Went to Lomography Embassy near where I work to get our photoworks results. Then stayed to watch L'Alphalpha's album launching at Heyfolks! The album is called 'When We Awake All Dreams Are Gone', and the gig was made as a small media gathering which then became this private show - involving the media and also close friends. Watched it with friends and my brother capturing their pic. Their performance that night was amazing and fun. The album came out great. Love the whole packaging of the album, it was made as a little story book for children with an extra bell given in it as a bonus, and especially love the bonus CD they handed out for some of the early buyers of the CD. The bonus was a video of the band performing, made by (of course) the talented videographer who is also my younger brother, Dimas Wisnuwardono.

Have been watching the news for the last few days and all I keep getting are bad news. So many bad things are happening in Indonesia, all the riots, the anarchy, the hatred and seeing people hurting and killing each other. And just today I read another story about the injustice that is taking part in Indonesian law.

As one of Indonesian young people, I know that we all want everything to be better. Better future, more justice and especially, more peace. Let's all keep our positive minds and hope for the best, and give our best to make a better future for everyone. Because the future is ours to make.

DIY - Old to New Black Jeans

I love fashion. And I love shopping. And there's a habit of mine to keep my closet from blowing out with so many things to keep inside. I always take my time to re-arrange my closet every 2 months, and at those times I pick out any items I have that I would never wear again or the things that I am bored with. I then take those items and put them in boxes which then I would either giveaway to any friends or siblings that need or want them, or give them out to charity, and lately I'm selling some of them on my online garage sale.

But there would also times when I find some things that I'm bored with, but instead of giving them away I would just re-design them and make them new again.

One example is my old black jeans from Mobile Power which was given by my late aunt a few years ago. I still like them but the model was too out of dated that I sewed it up and made it to a slim fit model which I love more. I've been wearing them to work these last few days and it is so comfortable to wear.

January 28th is my brother's birthday. Our family has this special habit of celebrating. We celebrate everything, including (mostly) our birthdays. The point of the celebration would probably be about gratitude, to really express our appreciation and gratitude for everything we've been going through on our past moments in life. To celebrate life.

We would usually order pizza or I would make any kind of Italian dish for these occassions, but this time we were all too busy and my Mom was craving to have McDonalds' special yearly menu, Beef Prosperity. So we order McDonalds last night and had the fullest junk food meal of our life.

Tuesday Only For Me

Tuesday was payment day. I had two very tiring and boring days this early week and decided that I might need some "me" time to refresh myself. I couldn't decide what to do but when I look at myself at the mirror I noticed how awful my hair really looked, since I haven't gone to any beauty salon for almost half a year, so I decided to get myself a haircut right after work.

I got off work at 5 PM then walked to Senayan City, which is not so far from my office (I actually go pass in front of it on my way home everyday). I went straight to the ATM to get my payment of the month and managed to get a "little snack" at Burger King to get rid of the headache I've had that day (I guess I was just hungry).

Itadakimasu....! :D

After the meal I rushed upstairs to Johnny Andrean and get my hair done. My hair is already so much longer than before, which I always made to a little bun when I go to work, and my bangs are ridicolously so messed up that they always cover my whole face whatever I do. I love how my hair looks right now, it still has its original length (the hairstylist only cut the end a bit about an inch long) but now I have layers and this very cute bangs.

The Story of A (Beautiful) Dance

I saw this the other day, from watching Live To Dance show that was aired on StarWorld. The couple catched my attention most immediately and made me almost completely on tears when I saw them dance.

Both dancers are amazing, and the dance itself - the beautiful movement, the story behind the dance and how the dance tells the whole story perfectly - is thrilling and absolutely breathtaking. They - and their story - are beautiful. My heart completely goes to the pair. I can't wait to see them dance again.

On the process of re-arranging my bedroom, I opened up my wardrobe and found a lot of stuff in it that I never really wear. I even found some of them that I've never wear (even once) eversince I bought them. I put them in boxes and split them to groups. I gave some for charity, and others for my younger relatives.

I've been planning to hold a small garage sale to sell the other items, that are still in mint condition or un-worn but never find the right time or place to do so. So I finally decided to do it online!!

So, here it goes....

I'm releasing my own small online shop, at http://mypettiteshoppe.blogspot.com. In that special blog I will post any stuff that I can sell or giveaway. And since the blog itself would probably need frequent updates, so later on I won't be just selling pre-owned stuff and secondhand items, but also some of my own designs or any limited items that I found and sell-able.

Heading to the final week of the 2010 I decided to list down some of the amazing moments and a lot of experience that I had from this year. Let's start...

January

I resigned. I've been working in an architecture firm for 18 months when I realized...it's time to move on. Got back at my own interest in photography and fashion. Been quite active with Jong Arsitek. Started writing again.

February

Got a new job. I actually wanted to work as a freelance designer/photographer but then realized that I still need a lot to prepare for it, so I got myself a new job at another architecture firm, which is where I'm working still.
Placebo's concert. Had a chance to attend meet&greet and had a photoshoot with them, then had the time of my life in their amazing concert. Unbelievable!!

March

The proposal. The man that had been my dearest best friend for the last 7 years took me to this small coffee corner at the mall and gave out this huge question, "Should we or should we not?"

Spent the next whole week to gather any courage I had in my heart to make that leap. Best friends do make best lovers. I love him.

Jong Arsitek's 2nd birthday. Got new friends and found old friends.

What we have now

April - May

Most of my activities relates only to work and any events held on the behalf of Jong Arsitek. And dating... Finding more into my man's mind and him to mine.

June - July

New Camera (actually my brother and I gathered money for it, he then used the new one and I use the old one that we have). Got more into photography. Jong Arsitek's national exhibition. It was a success.

My mom's birthday. The first fasting I celebrate with my boyfriend. His birthday. I made some Italian dish for his birthday. He doesn't like celebrating it though, but at least he loved the dinner :)

September

Our first Idul Fitri together. Had a chance to travel by my own to join my boyfriend at his hometown. I met almost all the members of his family. I met his loving mother, his older sisters, his brother in law who was really nice to me, his older brother and his kind wife, and also his nephews and nieces...all nine of them! I fell in love to all of them at the first sight (I hope they do too). Went to Solo and finally back to my family's house which I missed so much. Met our old friends and had a short tour in the city.

Had another wonderful journey. Had my 27th birthday....away from home, away from my family and my lover (HATE IT!!)

But at this month I suddenly realized...I've grown older, not only physically but also mentally. And at this point I started to keep reminding myself...it's really time to put my own ego aside.

At the end of this month, the Merapi Mountain erupted.

November

Had the early weeks of this month full of tension since the eruption of Merapi got worse. There was so many natural disaster that happened at the same time accross Indonesia but Merapi was the main concern of mine and my boyfriend's. Because it was so much closer to our hometown. We were both in Jakarta but Muntilan, his hometown, is located so close to Merapi (Solo is not so far away but the city was in safe distance). We got awake almost 24 hours a day until the whole eruption ended, listening to volunteers' radio to make sure that his home would be safe. We got so worried one time (and I was practically in tears) when we couldn't contact his mother or his sister. I still thank God that everyone was safe.

More on writings. More photo huntings. My boyfriend and I released our photoblog. I moved out from my boarding house and starting to live back with my parents to safe more money and be closer to my boyfriend. Designed new layout for my bedroom...which the re-arranging process is still on-going (I'll get back to you on that when it's finished..hope soon). Got a lot new friends from my blog (hello, followers!!). Got to know (and even meet) some amazing people from the fashion industry, from both local and international, through internet and also real life.

So much opportunity came to me and my boyfriend even as I am writing this. Can't wait to see how they'd go through.

Well, the year of 2010 has been a total rollercoaster for me. I had fun, I laughed about a lot of things, got hurt and got back up, fell in love and found a lot more amazing things throughout the year that was so memorable. Still can't believe a year has passed. I still have a lot of things in mind, a lot of plans for myself and my life. And I'm more determined than ever to really try to reach them one by one.

But for now....

Addio, 2010!! See you again on 2011!!

Last Sunday, December 19th 2010, my boyfriend and I went to an event held at Hanggar Teras Pancoran, Jakarta. It was The Kings of Fingerboarding 2010 (TKOF 2010) - a competition of fingerboard-ers from across the country held yearly. Want to know what a fingerboard is? This is it:

Anyway, We were invited that day to help out our friends, Ade and Hallala, who came from Solo with their friends to promote their brand, Pion Fingerboards. The both of them and added with some other finger-skater were all in the competition, so they needed back-ups to guard the booth were they sold and exhibited a lot of their products such as T-shirts, spareparts and accessories for fingerboards, and this is where Dika and myself came in. The boys joined up with the team of Undead Fingerboards at the exhibition.

Sky Sailing for Weekend

This sweet song started my day. Sky Sailing was started as the first solo project of Adam Young in 2006, before he started performing and recording as Owl City in 2007. He then left the project in favor of Owl City. One album has been released by the project - An Airplane Carried Me to Bed on July 13, 2010, and features some of the early recordings of Adam Young, before he toured as Owl City. Upon the release of An Airplane Carried Me to Bed, Adam Young described the collection of songs on the Sky Sailing website :

"I've kept these recordings secret for a long time and they've never seen the light of day until now. Long before Owl City was ever a spark of a flame, a lot of blue-collared working days were spent absentmindedly daydreaming about what would ultimately become this collection of songs. Launching T+K photoblog

Though work have been so busy and full of deadlines, I'm really excited because my boyfriend and I decided to make our own photoblog together on Tumblr. We've been posting a lot of photo collection that we've made together recently, and will keep on posting more and more each day.

The photoblog is called "T+K". For those who are close to us and have known us for years would probably understand what it means. The title was taken from our name, "Dita and Dika". Anyway, just come by and see the whole photo collection. The blog is looking more amazing now, the whole template design used on the blog was set dan edited by Dika. He really is talented and I can't be more proud of him.
